About Gather, etc.

Gather, etc. is an open kitchen—and a way of paying attention.

To gather is many things at once: ingredients before cooking, thoughts before writing, people around a table, moments worth holding onto. It is mise en place and hospitality. Preparation and presence.

This space is built around five perspectives.

From the Hill is where reflection lives. It is the view from a little restaurant on a hill in Massachusetts, but also the wider view that comes from experience, curiosity, and time. Here you'll find essays, observations, and the philosophy that shapes how I cook, host, travel, and learn.

In the Kitchen is about craft. Recipes, techniques, ingredients, and process. Not just what works, but why. The small decisions that transform raw ingredients into something memorable.

At the Table explores hospitality. Menus, pairings, traditions, and the guest experience. The rituals of gathering and the ways food creates connection long after the meal is over.

The Reality of It looks behind the curtain. Operations, timing, logistics, challenges, and problem-solving. The unglamorous work that makes beautiful experiences possible. Because every memorable meal rests on hundreds of practical decisions no one ever sees.

On the Road follows the search for inspiration. Restaurants, markets, museums, landscapes, architecture, and the people who shape them. Travel has taught me that food is often the fastest way to understand a place and the values of the people who call it home.

I come to this work as a chef, restaurant owner, host, and lifelong student. For years, I was an armchair traveler, exploring cultures through books, museums, restaurants, and public television before bringing those lessons back to my own kitchen. When travel finally became possible, it deepened what I already believed: food is a language, and every meal tells a story about place, history, and hospitality.

The “etc.” is intentional. It stands for et cetera—and for the things that refuse to fit neatly into a category. Art, architecture, memory, sustainability, design, and mood. It is also personal: ETC are my initials, a whisper of a signature rather than a headline.

This is a space for curious diners, home cooks, travelers who plan around meals, and hosts who care as much about the table as the food.

If a meal teaches something, it belongs here.
